Delicious and fresh food at a good price point!
Came here on a Saturday afternoon; there were a couple other groups also dining. We seated ourselves and were served tea not too long after.
Decided to go with the banh mi xa xieu which was incredibly flavourful and just delicious! And a great price at $3.50. Also had the noodles with spring rolls and mock meatballs. The spring roll and meatballs were perfectly fried and had a great crisp to them. I didn't love the meatballs - their flavour reminded me a lot of pork floss (dried shredded pork) which I wasn't into. Boyfriend really liked it though. My only gripe with the dish would be that it could come with more veggies.
Lastly, we had the banh it tran (available weekends only) which are sticky balls of chewy dough filled with mung beans and in this case, bits of imitation meat. It was very fresh and the filling was nicely seasoned but beware - the sauce that comes with it is quite strong so I'd recommend dipping it as you eat rather than pouring the whole thing on top which is what's normally done (and what I did).
The service was fast and friendly. I can't comment on the language barrier that others have mentioned since I spoke Vietnamese with them.
Total with tax and tip for 2 people for a light meal was $22 - a good value for such tasty and fresh food! I'm looking forward to trying many more of their dishes! -

Oh man this place
I had high hopes
I got the vermicelli and I personally enjoyed it. I thought the meat was really yummy and juicy for being imitation.
And the spring rolls - awesome.
My mom ordered the Cambodian style broth and she was not impressed. She found it to be way too salty. The MSG was real.
I found the ambiance to be not so good. We were seated at a side table and every time someone who get up or out my mom had to get up to let them pass because the area was so small. That is annoying since she had to get up around 4-5 times for 2 different people to come in and out. Not really fun when you just wanna sit and enjoy a meal.
The food was eh depending on what you ordered but the overall ambiance was disappointing. -

Marshall and I came here for dinner. I've had it bookmarked for awhile. I ordered their pad Thai and M had some sort of ramen. The ramen smelt like smelling feet...I think the ramen had stinky tofu. It literally made me gag. Please do not order this lol. Their pad Thai was delicious on the other hand. It looks a bit grungy and I probably wouldn't come back unless this was the only place open or available. Seating is very spacious.
Another thing is that our server forgot one of our orders. They did apologize and I was kinda glad they forgot. -

Found this hidden gem near Vaughan Mills. It's my first time trying Vietnamese Vegetarian and everything was well flavored without being overly salty and oily.
The imitation meat of my lemon grass beef, pork and spring roll was well executed. The fragrant fried lemon grass beef being the star of the dish and the thin crispy spring roll not overly heavy (which is ideal for a vegetarian meal)
My table mates got a hue style soup noodle that could have been a little spicier but the soup flavoring was well done without having any meat in the stock.
The duck and bamboo shoot noodle soup was good as well. But vegetarian duck is very hard to replace the slight gaminess of real duck for this soup and that's usually what makes this dish work through the contrasting of the bamboo shoots. But again, the soup flavoring was good to begin with, so it's a 3 1/2 type of noodle soup.
Will be returning to try other dishes.
These different and interesting alternative restaurants are hard to come by. -

If I blindfolded you and gave you a spoonful of soup from a regular bowl of pho with meat and seafood and had you tried another bowl that was of a vegetarian pho, would you be able to tell the difference?
In most cases I would say for sure and so will most people. I'm writing this review from the perspective of a non-vegetarian/vegan and I was very surprised with how good the broth is here at Tinh Tam Trai.
I ordered the Phnom Penh Style Noodle Soup. The sweet broth tasted just like the ones with meat in them. I was super surprised when I put the first spoonful in my mouth. It's one of those broths that tempts you to take another spoonful. The chef here clearly had a good eye for detail and really did a good job of adding the 'little things' to simulate the meat version of the dish. Within the noodle, there's vegetarian fish balls, vegetarian shrimp, vegetarian pork belly slices, deep friend tofu, carrot and vegetarian ground pork. The noodle also had these tiny pieces of deep fried croutons that maintained a slight crunch even after soaking in the soup for a while.
All in all a very satisfying bowl of vegetarian noodle. Wish the floors would be cleaner though.
